'Sanskrit must be janbhasha; it's not a language of Brahmins alone' Many feel that Indian languages are in a mess and what one witnesses is a mixture of English, Persian and Arabic in our regional languages. The question is, how do we purify Indian languages and remove the mix of various foreign languages? New Delhi-based Samskrita Bharati has decided to take upon itself the task of cleaning up Indian languages and to introduce Sanskrit as the mainstream language. Dinesh Kamath, the organisation’s all-Bharat organising secretary, speaks to Vicky Nanjappa about the cause. “Our organisation aims at the revival of Sanskrit as a mass communication language (janbhasha) and facilitation of common man’s access to its vast knowledge treasure. भाषासु मुख्या मधुरा दिव्या गीर्वाणभारती। तस्यां हि काव्यं मधुरं तस्मादपि सुभाषितम्॥ [ bhāṣāsu mukhyā madhurā divyā gīrvāṇabhāratī | tasyāṁ hi kāvyaṁ madhuraṁ tasmādapi subhāṣitam || ] अर्थ- भाषाओं में सर्वाधिक मधुर भाषा गीर्वाणभारती अर्थात देवभाषा (संस्कृत) है, संस्कृत साहित्य में सर्वाधिक मधुर काव्य हैं और काव्यों में सर्वाधिक मधुर सुभाषित हैं. [ Meaning : Of all languages, Sanskrit (gīrvāṇabhāratī) is the most important, sweet and divine. Her literary works are sweet, more so, the subhāṣitās! ]
